There is nothing worse than needles falling off of the Christmas tree. The needles are a pain to get out of the carpet and the tree looks dried out. Try this idea for preserving the needles and also a better way to water the tree. How many times does the floor or carpet get wet when you try to water the tree? Before taking the tree home, have the tree seller cut the end of the trunk off so that the tree will absorb water well. The sugar in the soda provides food for the tree and the citric acid in the clear soda helps to kill bacteria from forming in the water. If the tree stand is a small one then you may need to reduce the amount of soda and water. Mix the clear soda and water together and pour into the tree stand or pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze. By freezing the mixture into ice cubes; this will prevent spills while trying to fill the tree stand.
