How Do You Keep Snakes Out Of Chicken Houses?
Snakes are a particular problem for people who own chicken coops because snakes will invade a coop and eat the chicken eggs. In addition, it is not uncommon for snakes to kill baby chicks and even the larger chickens themselves. Unfortunately, chicken wire, which is effective at keeping out other predators, does little to deter snakes. In order to prevent snakes from entering the coop, you must drive them away as well as fortify the base of the chicken house structure. Move all wood piles, rock piles, boards, mulch piles and other objects that are surrounding the chicken house. These items all make perfect hiding places for snakes and will actually attract them. In addition, if you have a compost pile, move it far away from the house as snakes like to lay their eggs in compost. Mow the lawn with a lawn mower and trim weeds surrounding the chicken house on a regular basis. Snakes do not like open areas and prefer to hide in tall grass.
