It’s difficult to match paint colors exactly so it’s important to preserve the leftover customized paint for touch-ups and repairs later. To prevent paint from drying out or caking, and to prevent messy leaks, half used tins of paint can be properly stored. Follow these steps to keep paint fresh and ready-to-use. Open the new can of paint carefully with a specially designed “key” to preserve the lid and the “chime,” the groove around the top edge of the paint can. Fit the rim of the can with a pouring lid to keep the chime clean. Pour paint from the can into smaller containers for easier handling. Tip the can back and forth carefully to prevent paint from flowing back into the chime. Wipe any paint residue from the lid and the chime before sealing the tin.
