If you can, get one directly from the tree farm. Some farms will let you cut your own tree while others will ask you choose one and then cut it for you. If you are buying a tree from a Christmas tree lot, try to find one that was cut no more than a day or two ago. Once the truck of a tree is cut, the end will seal itself within a few hours. This is the tree’s way of trying to preserve the water already within it. To let the trunk start absorbing again, cut off 1/2″ to 1″ of the end just before putting it in water.
