Inspect the dead battery. Make sure there are no cracks in the casing. If you see any fluids dripping out, do not attempt to jump start the battery. Batteries contain explosive gases which can be harmful. Pull the second car with a good battery up to yours so the batteries are as close together as possible. Leave the car with the charged battery running and open both hoods. Using your jumper cables, connect only the positive cable (red cable) to the positive terminal of the dead battery – also marked in red.
