How Do You Join A Community Supported Agriculture Farm?
Community supported agriculture (CSA) farms are those that allow the public to buy a “share” of a farm’s produce by paying a fee at the beginning of the growing season. There are an estimated 1,700 CSA farms in North America. Check your local newspaper or its website for a list of CSA farms in your area. Or search the national database maintained by the Robyn Van En Center at Wilson College (see Resource). Pick a farm that suits your schedule. Some farms deliver your weekly share of produce to a pickup point in town or directly to your home. Others require you to pick it up at the farm. Select a pay arrangement that matches your needs. A full share usually provides enough produce for a family of four. Half-shares and mini-shares are also available or you can go together with other people to acquire a share.
