How Do You Join A College A Capella Group?
College a Cappella groups–female, male and coed–are often very selective, but can also be a lot of fun. Essential skills for joining are a good voice, good rhythm and a good ear. These groups look for singers who can stand out as soloists but who can also stand back in the crowd, listen well and sing harmony. Know your range and your skills. Here’s how to get noticed, get an audition, and get on with your college singing career. Attend concerts. Because a cappella concerts are often small and intimate, you’ll be noticed in the crowd if you’re a common face. Show that you’re a fan. Learn the music. If a member of the group were to ask you what your favorite song is from their repertoire (and someone probably will), have a good answer. Be prepared in case you’re asked to sing part of it.
