How Do You Iron A Dress Shirt?
• Begin with a clean, good quality iron. • Fill the water chamber in the iron with distilled water. Tap water can clog the steam function on your iron over time. Instead of steam, you may also use a spray bottle of water set to “mist.” • Adjust the height of the ironing board to your waist level. Be sure the floor underneath is clean. • If you don’t have an ironing board put clean bath towels on a table top. • Unbutton the shirt. • Read the fabric content label and set the iron to match, err on the cool side. For cotton/poly blend use a polyester setting. • Iron the small, hard parts first and then the big easy parts so the big parts don’t get messed up. Don’t worry about a few wrinkles on the sleeves. Iron the outside of the shirt, single thickness (except the sleeves). Do it in this order – collar, yoke (shoulder piece), cuff and sleeve with seam on the edge (both sides), other cuff and sleeve then the body. Iron the seams as you go, flat seams are important to the final result.
