How Do You Involve Christian Singles In Church Ministry?
While many churches have activities targeted for singles, the word I hear from Christian singles is, church is still a tough place to be. Social events, like the annual church picnic, are awkward, and singles are often passed over for ministry positions. How can you encourage and help single adults develop and contribute their God-given gifts to your church group, rather than drifting aimlessly in the shallows of church life? Here are some thoughts. Be sensitive. Be aware of the depth of the loss, whether it’s a widow or divorcee. Time does not heal all wounds, and the adjustments for those newly single are enormous. Don’t downplay the hurt often felt by never-marrieds, as well. These hurts need to be addressed before singles can give back to the community. Nurture individuals. While many do meet their life partner in church, this should not be your focus. We are important and useful in life and ministry as individuals.
