How Do You Invite Someone To Hang Out Over The Phone Without Sounding Needy?
• Telephone your invitee. Give them some small talk. • Sound interested in them. Ask them questions about themselves and their activities. Let them do most of the talking. • Keep your voice even, calm and well intoned. Do not feel scared, nervous or worried or it will come through in your voice in the way of quivers, whining sounds and frequent, small coughs. • Be confident that they are interested in spending time with you. You should already know this person and have a good idea that they would like to “hang out” with you. • Have an activity in mind. It is always more appealing to suggest doing something when you “hang out” rather than sitting around doing nothing. Ask nicely after the small talk. Don’t mince words and don’t um and ah. Just ask if they are interested and if today or later would be a good time. Be nice and gracious, whatever their answer.
