Credit card fraud ensues when the purchase of goods or services is made using another person’s credit card or credit card number with intentions to defraud. There are various forms of credit card, including but not limited to the act of counterfeiting credit cards, using lost or stolen cards for purchases of goods or services, and fraudulently acquiring someone else’s credit cards from their mail. Additionally, as of 2009 over half of all credit card fraud takes place online. There are various steps you can take to investigate suspected credit card fraud. Report a lost, stolen or misplaced credit card immediately to the issuer of the card. In most cases, the card issuer has a toll-free, 24-hour telephone number posted on your statement and on its website where you can report a missing card.
