Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) is an older operating system produced prior to Windows 2000 and XP. While it has not been in wide use since the advent of Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7, it may be necessary to install the operating system on legacy hardware or in another environment for testing purposes. Put your Windows 98 floppy disk into your computer’s floppy drive, restart the computer and select the “Start computer without CD-ROM support” option. Type “fdisk” at the Command Prompt, press the “Enter” key, type “Y,” press “Enter,” press the “1” key and press “Enter.” Press “1,” press “Enter,” type “Y,” press “Enter” and then restart your computer. Go back into the “Start computer without CD-ROM support” option, type “format c:” and press the “Enter” key. Type “Y” and press the “Enter” key.
