Video cards, also referred to as graphics cards, are expansion cards used to display the image on a computer monitor. Dedicated video cards have better performance than on-board video (the motherboard). The increase in performance is most noticeable in more demanding applications, such as 3-D games or DVD-watching. As of 2010, PC motherboards use PCI-E as the primary video interface. Set your computer on a flat, dust-free surface. Use a screwdriver to remove the case screws on the back of the computer case. Only remove the screws on the right side (the side opposite of where the cords are plugged into the motherboard). Place both hands firmly on the metal housing inside the computer case. This will prevent the static buildup that can ruin your motherboard, and more specifically, your video card. Locate the PCI-E slot on the motherboard.
