Upgrading a kitchen’s flooring to tile from vinyl can bring new life to the well-used space. You can easily do the project in a weekend, but it requires some preparation work. You must make sure the vinyl flooring is securely glued to the floor underneath and that any damaged sections are removed. Once the prep work is complete, you are ready to start on the tile project. Sweep the vinyl flooring to remove any dust, dirt and other debris. Then mop with a heavy duty cleaner or stripper. Make sure to scrub the floor to remove any shine or wax. Let floor dry for at least 30 minutes. Cut out any damaged sections of the vinyl floor — pieces curling up, broken off or other damage. Glue down any loose sections using a glue or adhesive designed for vinyl flooring. Follow the directions on the adhesive product for drying and curing times.
