Tile is a stylish and durable flooring option. It is best to lay tile on a smooth wood or concrete surface, removing any linoleum before laying the tile. However, this is not always possible. Many linoleum installers glue the material to the floor which makes it almost impossible to remove. If this is the case then you can lay the tile over the linoleum with some prep work and the right supplies. Use a utility knife to cut out all spots in the linoleum that are ripped, or otherwise sticking up. Do this to ensure the tile will have a smooth surface to lay on. Press the tip of a sharp blade firmly into the linoleum and run the knife through the material. Use a laser level to direct a beam from corner to corner of the room. Go along that beam with a straight edge and marking pen to create a visible dark line that will be used as a guide when laying the tile.
