Mozilla Thunderbird is the open source alternative to Microsoft Outlook. Thunderbird is free and can be downloaded for an easy install in Windows. Point your web browser to the Thunderbird homepage. Thunderbird is part of the Mozilla foundation, creator of the popular web browser Mozilla Firefox. Once there, click on the big “Download Thunderbird” button. The file should begin to download automatically. Save the file on your computer somewhere that you will remember. If you have cable or DSL internet, the download should only take under a minute. Open the file and allow Windows Vista to continue installation when the security pop up box opens. Click next to do a standard installation when prompted and accept the terms of use.
