Microsoft released Windows 2000 Professional in the year 2000, just a few months after Windows Millennium Edition. Windows 2000 was built upon the code base of the popular Windows NT. Notable improvements over prior operating systems included support for a large number of Plug and Play devices and greater support for network and wireless devices. Although official Microsoft support for Windows 2000 ends in July 2010, users may still install and use the operating system.
