Installing a shutoff valve for a gas dryer is critical to the safety of anyone using the dryer. The shutoff valve is installed in the same room as the dryer, and should be easily accessible. If there’s a gas leak or you need to turn the gas off, rotate the lever on the valve to the off position. The shutoff valve is installed between the gas line in the house and the appliance. Turn the gas off at the main regulator valve at the tank location. Clean any debris away or out of the gas pipe threads, using the wire brush. Apply a coating of pipe thread compound (also called pipe dope) to the threads on the end of the pipe. Thread one end of of the shutoff valve onto the threaded end of the pipe in a clockwise direction. Hand-tighten the valve, and then use the pipe wrench to further tighten the connection.
