Before you begin a carpet installation, you have to install tackless carpet strips. These strips have small teeth that grip and hold the carpeting in place. If you properly install tackless carpet strips, it will prevent the carpet from shifting out of place. Installing tackless carpet strips for concrete is similar to installing the strips on wood subfloors. You just need a few extra tools to install the strips correctly and make the job go a bit easier. Purchase concrete carpet tack strips. Look for carpet strip cases with the letter “C”. These are specific strips for concrete. Measure the tack strip perimeter. Mark a line that comes out from the wall that is two-thirds the thickness of the carpeting. Snap a chalk line. Place the chalk snap line over the measurement line you marked in Step 2. Hold the line steady and snap. Drill pilot holes. Using a masonry bit, drill small pilot holes in the concrete. Mark the position of the nail holes on the carpet tack strip. Attach carpet strip.
