Light fixtures controlled by a wall switch are about the easiest kind to install, because all you have to do is insert the new fixture into the existing electrical circuit. The switch itself doesn’t have to be altered for a new fixture, because the switch’s only function is in interrupt the power when you flip it off and allow power to resume when you turn it back on. Make sure when you buy your fixture that it’s at least as big at the base as the old fixture, so it will cover the electrical box. Shut down power to the existing light fixture at the circuit box. Remove the existing fixture from the wall or ceiling, by unscrewing the screws holding it to the surface. Note the configuration of the wiring from the electrical box to the fixture, then disconnect the wires and pull the fixture free. Position the new fixture near the electrical box.
