How Do You Install Speaker Wires Under Carpet?
Speaker wires are necessary but can clutter up the floor. Normally, they have to run across a room, in the case of surround sound systems. So if you want your room to look neat and don’t want to trip over the speaker wires, installing them under the carpet is a great idea. It prolongs the life of the wires and can prevent accidents. If the carpet is already installed, you’ll have to pull up the section along the wall where you want the speaker wire to go. Make sure you have enough speaker wire to lay flush on the ground across the entire distance of the room and reach up to the speakers and stereo. Adding additional wire and coiling it with a twist tie is a good idea in case you want to move the stereo at some point. Lay the wire across the bare floor (not over the carpet padding). It will go from one wall to the next. Set a 1/4-inch staple over the wire right at the molding nearest the stereo equipment, and secure it straight to the floorboards using a light hammer.
