How Do You Install & Replace IDE With SATA?

0

IDE hard drives are being phased out and replaced by SATA drives in newer computers. While SATA and IDE hard drives use different data connectors, they share the same power cable format, so you only have to replace one cable. Shut down your computer and unplug it from the power outlet. Check your motherboard for a SATA connector. The SATA connector will most likely be colored red or orange, is L shaped and about half an inch wide. Connect one end of your SATA data cable to the SATA port on your motherboard and the other end into the SATA port on the hard drive. Connect the power cable (it should have three small cables, colored yellow, red and black) to the SATA hard drive. The power cable that was plugged into your IDE hard drive will work with your SATA hard drive.
