How Do You Install Porcelain Tile For Showers & Tubs?
Porcelain tiles are a richer, more durable (and more expensive) alternative to ceramic tiles for covering the walls surrounding your shower or bathtub. The method of installing porcelain tiles, though, is identical. It’s important to start with a backing of cement board over the walls, which will provide waterproof stability for the tiles. It’s also important to seal the grout after laying the tiles, as unsealed grout will allow moisture to get under the tiles. Caulking the corners rather than grouting them will add extra protection. Find and mark the studs behind the walls around the shower or tub, with your electronic studfinder, level and pencil. Measure and cut pieces of cement board to cover the walls. Cut the pieces by scoring them with your razor knife and snapping them at the lines.
