Motorcycle engine guards are one of the most important pieces of safety equipment that you can buy. They can also add style and personality to your motorcycle. Installation is fairly simple, and can be done in less than an hour on most bikes; here’s how. Step 1 Hold the engine guards up to your bike and determine exactly where you’ll need to mount them. You can use a piece of chalk to mark this location. Step 2 Install spacers in your rear footpegs. This may or may not be necessary, depending on what model of motorcycle and engine guards you have. You can use a socket, but due to the location of the bolts, it may be easier to use a wrench. Remove the bolts that secure the rear footpegs to the bike’s frame. These bolts are located on the inside of the footpeg next to the engine. Then insert the spacer between the frame of the bike and the footpeg, and reinstall the footpeg.
