Ceramic tile adds color and functionality to a room’s walls or floors. Choosing mesh-backed tile for the installation allows you to install a tile design easily, regardless of the size of your tiles, as mesh makes it easy to set several tiles at once without worrying about their individual spacing. The process to install mesh-backed ceramic tiles is the same whether the tiles are to be displayed on the walls or the floor. Clean the subflooring with a vacuum if you are tiling a floor, and wash the walls if you are placing the tile on a wall. If you are setting the tiles on anything but concrete, attach a layer of cement backer board to the subfloor or walls with cement screws. Use a measuring tape to determine the length and width of the ceramic tile installation. Snap a chalk line to indicate the center of the floor. If you are installing mesh-backed tile as a backsplash or accent wall, snap a chalk line to indicate where the perimeters of the installation are. Mix your thinset mortar
