How Do You Install MDF Crown Molding?
Crown molding is ideal for blending the ceiling with the wall. It adds an instant visible architectural beauty to any home. Crown molding comes in different sizes and designs. MDF, or medium density fiberboard, is a chosen alternative to plaster molding. It is cheaper yet has the same elegant look. Consider the height of the wall when choosing your molding. The MDF crown mold comes in 4, 5, 7 and 9 inches wide. Measure the distance around the top of the wall where you will be installing your crown molding. MDF crown mold usually comes in 8-foot pieces. Divide the measured distance by eight and multiply that number by 1.1 to get the total amount of crown molding you need in feet. This also leaves a 10% waste. Place a finish on your MDF molding before you install it. Make sure the room is well-ventilated and a drop cloth is placed under your work. Once the boards are dry, they are ready for installation.
