Tiling a countertop in any kind of stone material lends a high-class look to it. Tiling it in marble ratchets up the class factor even more. Marble is arguably the most elegant and classic of tiling materials–and also one of the more complicated to work with. It has to be cut with a wet saw (you can rent them), and spaced very close together to give the appearance of a solid slab. Start with a bare, solid plywood countertop frame. With your tape measure, find the middle of the length of the countertop and mark it. Use your level to make a line there, from front to back, extending down over the front edge of the countertop. Use your wet saw to cut strips of marble tiles to fit on the front edge. Spread thinset mortar over the front edge and hang the tiles there, using the center line as your starting point.
