As the green building movement grows, so does the use and availability of bamboo flooring. Bamboo is considered green because it is a rapidly renewable resource, meaning that it regenerates quickly once it is harvested. This makes it an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional hardwood, which is harvested from trees that could take decades to grow back. Locking bamboo floors are easy to install and require no nails or staples. Instead, they float across the subfloor, making them very forgiving for the novice installer. Measure the room to determine how much material you will need. Multiply the length and width of the space to calculate square footage. Purchase locking bamboo flooring from your local home improvement store or a flooring store (see Resources).
