How Do You Install Laminate Floor Underlay?
One of the most important aspects of installing a laminate floor, although never seen, is the proper underlay. This is the portion that sits between the subfloor and the laminate above. Underlayment consists of foam padding and, in some instances, a moisture barrier. Some laminate comes with built-in underlay, but other types will require separate installation. Making a mistake here can lead to costly repairs on your new flooring. Look at the subfloor that will be supporting your laminate. Is it wood or concrete? Wood floors need room to breathe to prevent moisture buildup. You will need to cover concrete floors with a moisture-proof barrier to stop moisture from flowing upward and damaging the laminate. Get sound-absorbent foam padding if you will be installing the laminate in upper-story rooms. This will prevent sound from traveling to rooms below. Prepare the subfloor.
