Java 1.6 is also known as Sun Java 6. The Java JRE is the run-time environment that allows you to run applications created with the Java language. The JRE needs to be installed to view Java applications over the Internet. To install Java 6 in Ubuntu, you can either use the Synaptic Package Manager or the yum command line tool. Open the “Synaptic Package Manager” from the “Administration” sub-menu of the “System” menu.
