How Do You Install Gas Furnace Vents?
Gas furnaces use natural gas as fuel to make heat. A byproduct of this process creates combustion gases, mainly carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. These are toxic to humans and must be exhausted out of the building. If left in the building, they can cause significant health problems. These gases are removed from the combustion chamber of the furnace to outside through gas furnace vents — metal ducts that run from the furnace to the chimney. With the right tools, it is fairly easy to install gas furnace vents. Measure the distance from the vent outlet on the furnace to the chimney. Purchase the required length of galvanized duct from your local home improvement store. Purchase enough elbows to account for any turns you must make. Cut an entry hole into your chimney if there already isn’t one. The hole should be cored in a location that allows the galvanized duct to pitch up from the furnace outlet to the chimney. To core a hole into a masonry chimney, you’ll need a hammer. drill and t
