Measure the surface area of the floor to determine the total number of tiles needed to cover the floor. Purchase the amount needed plus an additional 5 percent to have tiles available for cutting to cover areas requiring partial tile coverage. Remove the floor trim and baseboards present surrounding the floor, using a pry bar to pull away the trim by the nails. Place any trim or baseboards removed aside for later use.
