The process of installing a flash drive on a Windows 98 computer is simple. Unlike a device like an internal hard drive or internal DVD drive that has to be installed inside of your computer’s case, a flash drive is meant to be used exclusively on the exterior of your machine. Because of this, you just need to insert the flash drive into any available USB port on your computer in order to get the drive up and running in Windows 98. Insert the metal USB plug on the end of your flash drive into a USB port on your computer. You may use any USB port on your computer, so long as it isn’t currently being occupied by another device. Double-click with your mouse’s left button on the “My Computer” icon in the top-left corner of your Windows 98 desktop. Wait a few seconds. Once Windows 98 recognizes that you’ve attached new hardware, an icon for your flash drive will appear in the “My Computer” window on your screen. Your flash drive is now properly installed in Windows 98.
