How Do You Install Fancy Light-Switch Backing Plates?
While a light switch backing plate may seem like a little thing, it can actually affect the appearance of a wall or room in a big way. Different colors and styles are available, and all will install the same way. Some are made of plastic, others of pewter or steel, but all custom-backing plates are meant to make your home look better. Remove the old backing plate screws with the appropriate screwdriver, usually a flat-head. Remove the old backing plate. It may not come off easy at first, especially if the wall has been painted before. A gentle pry with the screwdriver is all it should take to convince it to let go of the wall. Install the new backing plate in the reverse order of removal, using the new hardware, if provided. Be very careful not to over-tighten the bolts, because the plastic backing plates like the one shown will crack very easily.
