Installing door trim can be tricky, but with patience and the right tools, it’ll look fine Measure the left side of the doorframe from the bottom of the frame (or where you want the trim to end) to the top inside corner of the frame. Add 1/4th inch to this measure for the length to cut. Mark the inside edge (on the right side) of the trim piece at this length. Using the mitre saw set to 45 degrees, cut the trim piece to the right length. Be sure the mark is the low point on the cut. The outside edge of the trim will be longer than the inside edge. And remember that the inside edge of the trim is usually not as thick as the outside edge. Be careful to double or triple check the cut direction or you’ll have to throw away the whole piece! To nail the trim to the door, position the trim with about a 1/4th inch gap between the right (inside) edge of the trim and the right (inside) edge of the left side door frame.
