Electric valve sprinklers are controlled by a panel which can turn them on and off at specific times. Each valve controls a specific series of sprinklers, grouped into individual zones. Because they can be activated automatically, you can tailor each valve to provide specific amounts of water and simply let the system run on its own. Though it takes some basic know-how, installing it yourself is much less expensive than hiring a landscaper to do it. Contact your local utility companies and get the exact location of any power lines, sewage lines and water lines on your property.
