Landscape edging creates a neat, tidy line between lawn and vegetable, flower, or shrubbery planting areas. Edging not only improves the visual aesthetic of the landscape, in helps improve desired plant growth by keeping grass from invading other plantings and robbing them of water and nutrients. Vertical metal or plastic edging comes in rolls which can be cut to length and fitted around curves, creating an unobtrusive division line, while brick or concrete pavers create a more dramatic, substantial transition between lawn and garden. Mark desired edging location using string laid out on the ground. Cut a line into the turf along the ground with an edging tool. Dig out all turf from the marked edging line across the surface of the garden bed using flat-bladed shovel. Compost the turf, or transplant it as sod to another location. Press shovel vertically into the soil along the edge of the removed turf to a dept of 6 inches. Place each shovelful of dirt on the garden area a foot or more
