How Do You Install Duration Premium Shingles?
Duration Premium Shingles are a roofing product manufactured by the Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt Co. The shingles are made of asphalt and aggregate materials, as are many other shingles. They include second-layer tabs over the top of the lower portion of the shingle. These tabs have adhesive strips to hold them in place. The Duration Premium Shingle also utilizes a wider nailing area. Between these two features, and the premium quality materials used, the shingles are rated for winds of up to 130 miles per hour. This is the equivalent of a category 3 hurricane or an F2 tornado. Prepare the roof with tar paper as normal with shingle applications. Nail the starter roll along the base or eave of the roof. The starter roll is about 12 inches wide and serves as a base for the shingles being installed.
