How Do You Install Concrete Board In A Shower?
Concrete board looks like drywall, and can be cut in much the same way. But it’s much harder and waterproof, making it an ideal backing for shower walls. Start with a framed-in shower stall, with bare studs, and install concrete board instead of drywall. Have your contractor install the shower base first, and make sure the plumbing lines are installed and properly situated before you start. Measure one wall of the shower with a tape measure. Use your jigsaw to cut a 5/8-inch cement board sheet to fit. Cut out any holes necessary for the plumbing lines. Secure the board to the studs, using a screw gun and galvanized screws. If one sheet won’t cover a whole wall of the stall, secure a bottom sheet first, then a top sheet. Repeat the process for each wall of the stall. Press mesh drywall tape over all the seams between the boards, including the corners, and the lines between the top and bottom boards, if you used more than one per wall.
