You can set tile on a cement floor just like you do on any other floor. The thing that is different about setting tile on a cement floor is that a certain amount of prep work is required before you trowel on the mortar and set your first tile. Neglect the prep work, and before long you could find yourself dealing with buckled, cracked or lifting tiles. Fill a pail with water and TSP mixed according to manufacturer’s instructions. Trisodium phosphate is a powerful cleaner that will remove grease, dirt and oil from the surface of concrete. Use a bristle brush to scrub the floor. Check for low spots in the floor by setting a straight edge horizontally on the concrete. Use floor self-leveler to fill the low spots that are anywhere from 1/16 inch to 4 inches deep. Paint on a concrete sealer. When dry, this sealer acts as a moisture barrier and will keep out any moisture traveling up through the concrete from the ground below. Measure the room horizontally and vertically find the center. Sna
