I am a carpenter not a tile guy. I recently needed a bathroom floor done in ceramic tile. I found the prices the tile guys wanted to be outrageous, so I decided to do it myself. Guess what….it’s easy! I have done it several times since. I’m talking about the floor I’m sure walls and ceilings are more involved. Here is how I did it. You can too. Take out any fixtures you want the tile to go under (like the toilet).Remove whatever existing flooring is on the space you want to tile. Thoroughly scrape and clean the plywood. Install cement backer board. There are several brands, as far as I can tell they are pretty much the same. They recommend thinset mortar for this. I think the same adhesive you use for the tile works fine. This stuff is heavy and it’s weight makes it adhere well. I found that screw in each corner of each piece is all you need to hold it in place until the glue sets up. Let it dry over night. Dry fit your tile. Start at the longest wall with full tiles.
