Installing Ceramic-Porcelain tiles is easy and can make a dramatic update to your home. Follow these steps for a successful installation. 1-Remove any existing flooring. In some cases, you can install ceramic flooring directly above the existing flooring but this is not recommended for most instances. 2-Ensure that your subfloor is strong enough for installation of the new flooring. It is recommended that the minimum subfloor be 3/4″ thick plywood. Furthermore, ensure that the flooring is secured to the joists underneath and not loose/squeeky. Under sized joists can also affect the longevity of your floor tiles. 3-Once you have established that the subfloor is strong enough, it is recommended that you use a Schluter system underneath your new tiles. The schluter system is a product that acts as a membrane between the tiles and the subfloor, so any shrinking/expanding in the wooden members underneath would not cause your tiles to crack.
