How Do You Install An Exhaust In A Diesel Boat?
Diesel exhaust systems carry exhaust gases and heat away from the engine and vent it into the atmosphere. Bolted to the exhaust manifold, the exhaust pipe runs horizontally through the engine room and turns vertically to run through the deck. The vertical pipe runs to above the roofline where the muffler is mounted. The muffler baffles the note of the engine pulses, which can be quite obnoxious, and provides back-pressure for the system to aid in tuning the air/fuel mix and help minimize the amount of free hydrocarbons (unburned fuel) that escapes in the exhaust stream. Cut a section of pipe with the torch to run from the exhaust manifold to the desired location for the vertical stack. Weld the flange to one end and temporarily mount the flange to the manifold with a few bolts. Mark the pipe at the very top to aid in aligning the flange and the elbow. Remove the pipe from the manifold and weld on the elbow. Ensure that the pipe is laying with the mark up and align the elbow to the mark
