Most household light switches operate using the same series of wires that run electrical outlets. Thus you can replace an electrical outlet with a light switch that allows you to turn multiple outlets off and on at once. The process is very easy and does not require a great deal of time. You should have a fairly good idea of the electrical layout of your home before starting. Go to the circuit breaker box in your home and shut off the power to the part of the house containing all of the electrical outlets you will be working with. Determine which electrical outlet is the closest to the circuit box. Electrical outlets are often arranged in a “daisy chain,” with wiring leading from the breaker box to the first outlet, then the second outlet, and so on.
