An electric garage-door opener can not only provide convenience, it can also improve the security level of your home. These devices are rather inexpensive and moderately easy to install. Assemble the rail system. Depending on the model of opener you have purchased, it will either be a screw-drive or a chain-drive unit. Both will have a rail system, normally shipped in two or three sections that must be assembled. Mount the wall bracket. Use your tape measure to determine the center of your door and the correct height to mount the wall bracket from the floor. Most brackets will mount with either two or three large wood screws. Make certain the screws are placed in a stud, or in the solid door frame. Attach the rail to the opener. Bolt the rail system to the opener and line the chain/cable up on the sprocket.
