How Do You Install An Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter?
Arc fault circuit breakers prevent fires caused by electrical arcs. The National Electric Code now requires AFCI breakers on branch circuits that serve bedrooms of residential homes, apartments and condominiums. Installing an AFCI is nearly the same as installing a regular circuit breaker, with a few differences. A white neutral runs from the breaker to the neutral bus, and the circuit neutral is connected to the breaker instead of the neutral bus. The hot wire is connected as usual. The AFCI monitors both lines of the branch circuit and shuts off current if an arc fault is detected. Turn off the main circuit breaker in the panel box. Remove the screws holding the panel cover and door on, and remove the panel cover and door. Test several circuit breakers with the no-contact voltage tester by bringing the probe close to their wires to verify there is no current present. Select an empty position in the panel box for the new AFCI breaker. Install the breaker on the panel according the pan
