How Do You Install An Air Conditioner Compressor?
Automobile air conditioners use a compressor to circulate freon through a condenser/evaporator system, lowering the inside temperature through air induction. This compressor can fail and not move the coolant, causing the air conditioning system to stop working and blow hot air. The average backyard mechanic can replace an air conditioning compressor in about an hour. Disconnect the battery by turning the positive terminal bolt counterclockwise. Position the compressor into the mount arms, and slide the mount bolts through the arm holes. Tighten the mount nuts by holding the bolt head with a socket wrench, then turning the nut clockwise. On serpentine belt systems, secure all bolts tightly. For single belt systems leave the adjustment arm’s bolt a little loose. Wrap the primary drive belt over the compressor’s pulley wheel.
