Windows XP Service Pack 2 is an upgrade of the original Windows XP operating system installation. The service pack fixes a number of problems in the original release of XP as well as adds security updates. Windows XP Service Pack 2 can be either downloaded from the Microsoft website or can be purchased from Microsoft for a nominal fee. Purchase the Service Pack 2 disk from Microsoft or download the file from Microsoft’s website. Be aware that this is a large file of several hundred megabytes and may takes hours to download if you have dial-up or an otherwise slow Internet connection (see Resources below). Back up all important information to CD or DVD before installing the service pack. This would include any data files and programs installation files you have downloaded from the Internet, including the Service Pack 2 file. Insert the Service Pack 2 disk into your CD or DVD drive.
