How Do You Install A Speedometer Cable On A 1984 Nighthawk?
In the early 1980’s, Honda updated the image of their cherished CB series motorcycles. Shifting away from the round headlights used on previous CB models, the new CB650 Nighthawk was equipped with a distinctive rectangular headlight. Unfortunately, the same headlight also became a nuisance when the cable-driven speedometer required repair. While replacing a damaged cable is fairly easy, figuring out how to get behind the headlight to access the speedometer left many riders scratching their heads. Removing the headlight is easier than it appears and makes replacing the speedometer cable a breeze. Remove the Allen head bolts that secure the headlight assembly to the front fork with an 8 mm Allen key. One bolt on each side secures the headlight assembly. Pull the headlight assembly away from its brackets and pull off the wiring harnesses from both headlight bulbs. Set the headlight assembly aside.
