How Do You Install A Soft Ceiling In A Basement Remodel?
Finishing the ceiling in a basement has two options, a drywall or a soft ceiling, also called a drop ceiling. Drop ceilings make access for running wires and other work that requires ceiling access much easier. Putting in a drop ceiling is easier than working with heavy drywall sheets but it isn’t as aesthetically pleasing. Decide on the exact height you want the ceiling. Allow 4 to 5 inches as a minimum gap distance between the old ceiling or joists. Use a level and pencil to mark a line around the room to account for changes in ceiling height. Fasten the wall angles around the room using the pencil mark as a guide. Nail the angles directly into the studs for lasting support. Allow inside corner pieces to overlap and miter outside corners with cutting snips. Install any recessed lighting now and run all of the necessary wires across the supports. Tack electrical wires to the joists and finish any additional piping. Cut all of the suspension wires 12 inches longer than the gap measurem
